This mixed-use Townhome, Single Family and Duplex Community located in Aurora, CO experienced severe damages from a hailstorm during the summer of 2014. The Community had previously used a roofer to make maintenance repairs, but when the storm hit there was too much damage to multiple assets. It required a General Contractor with insurance claim expertise to handle the claim. Paint, screens, gutters, downspouts, roofs, windows, monuments and more were damaged during the storm.
Prior to Hammersmith Contracting’s involvement with this claim, a volunteer from the Association’s Maintenance Committee was tasked with handling the extremely complicated process. Additionally, the insurance company hired an adjusting company that rushed through the claim and left out more than $2 million in assets that should have originally been included. When Hammersmith Construction Services was hired, we started working with the insurance company (with which we have a great relationship and have worked with many times in the past), the insurance broker for the Association, and the adjusting firm the insurance company hired.
We worked in partnership with the Maintenance Committee Members and the Board to provide updates as we progressed through the claim. By the conclusion of the claim process we were able to get the Association total replacement for all roofs. Initially, half the roofs were only partially covered. And more than 80 additional windows, 50 air conditioners and 200 screens were added to the claim. When all the work was complete, the Community was made whole, and greatly improved, as we also upgraded the roofing systems to meet current code requirements at no additional cost to the Association.
